New Year’s Resolutions
I don’t like to come up with New Year’s Resolutions just for the sake of having one - especially one I’m not invested in. But occasionally I find something in my life that I want to change and decide to adopt one.
Late last year I found myself consistently having a hard time finding music to listen to during the day that I was excited for. Spotify was serving me up the same songs and artists that I have spent the last few years playing over, and over, and over. And it finally hit the point where I opened the app and everything it offered just seemed…blah. They say your musical tastes tend to stagnate as you age, and I was feeling that big time. Around the same time I saw a post on Reddit by someone who mentioned that they listened to a different album each day. And voila! My resolution for 2025 was born - LISTEN TO MORE MUSIC!
I don’t have a numeric goal in mind, but my goal is to listen to albums, specifically. I started by going through some “Best of 2024” lists (like this one from The Ringer). I’m generally listening while I work, so I’m not generally sitting with the music and trying to analyze and parse it out - I’m just listening for something that I like. Here are a few that I found in January that I found myself returning to regularly.
Waxahatchee - Tigers Blood
Favorites: Evil Spawn, Tigers Blood, Burns Out at Midnight
MJ Lenderman - Manning Fireworks

Fontaines D. C. - Romance

The Japanese House - Good at Falling
